Pleasantview Lodge Name: Pleasantview Lodge Location: On Brule Lake in Plevna, Ontario Fisherman.ca Reviewers Rating: Fisherman.ca Reviewers Outlook:
The drive from Toronto took between 3-4hrs. On my way up I stopped by a few places to cast a few and see what I could catch. The drive was very scenic, especially once I turned onto Hwy #506, the view was amazing. Hwy #506 has a spectacular view of tree's and wooded areas with a few lakes and rivers on the way. Now I know tree's may not seem like that much of a big deal, but once you take the drive down 506 towards Plevna, you will understand what I am talking about. I arrived at Pleasantview Lodge in the morning hours of July 20th, 2007 to find an incredible view of Lake Brule and a couple well kept cottages. I met Helen one of the proprietors, upon my arrival. Helen was very pleasant and easy to talk to. Helen showed me around the lodge and the lodge facilities. She also spent the time to show me where everything was and how to operate the hot tub. After a warming welcome, we went over the boat safety features and procedures and I was ready to hit the lake. I unloaded my belongings into Cabin #2 and prepared my fishing equipment for the days fishing trip. Helen provided me with a map of the lake, that displayed the best fishing spots for the various types of fish found in the lake. After loading the boat it only took one quick pull and it was running smoothly. There is nothing worst than getting into a boat that you have to waste your energy trying to get the motor started. My first couple hours of fishing were tough, with limited bites and only a couple fish. By the afternoon things started picking up and I caught quite a few fish, mostly small ones. I was not able to get the big ones to bite for some reason. There is one thing I can say about the fish, they may have been small, but they sure could put up a great fight. After a relaxing nights sleep I got up the next morning and headed back out on the lake. Again the morning was slow and things picked up later in the afternoon. Again, the big ones just did not want to bite for me. While I was on the lake I ran into a couple other fisherman that were able to brag about their fish being allot bigger than mine. Of course they did not have any in the boat to prove their stories. Then sure enough after a few minutes, while talking to them, they had to prove it by catching onto a nice size bass. The worst part was he caught it by casting in front of my boat. Embarrassed by my small fish, I had to start working allot harder to catch the big ones. I put on my productive blue fleck Senco softbait, knowing that usually the big ones will hit it, especially when I hook it wacky style (hooked sideways). Sure enough within a couple casts a had a big hit and I set the hook. This fish fought like you would not believe, I knew by the fight it had to be atleast 3lbs. After an exciting few minute fight I got the opportunity to take a look at this monster fighter. You would not believe it, this bass was only about a pound and a half. I was so surprised, especially after the fight I just had. Needless to say, that was unfortunately the biggest fish of the day. The numbers were there but the sizes were not, well not for me anyhow.
