Fisherman Canada Reviewers Outlook:
A little later in the evening I was walking around this beautiful property, when I ran into Cezar and started talking some more about Springwood Cottages. We took a tour of the grounds, all the cabins and spoke about the services offered at Springwood Cottages. It was perfectly laid out to cater to a wide range of guests. They have cottages that are all decked out with everything you could think of including a big plasma TV, quality furniture, nik naks etc... Then other cottages that would be perfect for an individual or couple people, who are just looking to have an economical place to kick up their feet or do a bit of fishing. I was really surprised at the versatility of the various types of cottages and amendments that each offered. My favorite would be the one that is off at the top of the hill, that is all secluded from the other cottages. I met some great people during my stay at Springwood Cottages, including Cassandra and mom, Jola, Cezar's girlfriend, Ursula. David who is one of Cezar's helpers at Springwood Cottages. I met allot of people that have been here for the first time this weekend and everyone of them had great things to say about the place and the hospitality provided by Cezar. Everyone said they would be coming back again. There was a couple others that have been here before, including one lady who has been coming to Springwood Cottages for 55 years and another family who has been coming up for many years, not sure how many but they simply said many years. All loving every minute of their visit. It seems like there is always something to do around here, very entertaining. Sunday night I went out for a midnight fishing trip with one of Springwoods other guests, Danny. We had a fantastic time, the water was calm and like ice, the rain had stopped and the temperature was fairly warm considering all the cool and wet weather that has been here the last couple days. Even with all the great factors for night fishing, it was not our night for catching fish. Danny and I got a few hits, but could not land anything. I guess with the cold front in the water, they were not too overly eager to bite. We tried various different types of top water lures, with no luck. We got back to the cottages around 5 -5:30am and I quickly fell asleep. Monday morning, after only a couple hours sleep I was up at 7:30-7:45AM, had my shower and made a nice breakfast of toast and scrambled eggs. After finishing breakfast I started getting my fishing equipment ready, I was going out with Cezar this morning to do some fishing. Cezar offers a fishing guide service for his guests upon request, he is the only guide on the lake. His rates are $250 for 4 hours and he guarantee's you will catch fish. Not just a regular guarantee like most places, that say if you catch one fish you caught something, so no refund. Cezar guarantees you will catch your limit of fish, according to the license you buy from the ministry, either conservation or sport. So when I go out with him this morning I am going to ask him, since I am his guest and he is basically paying for my guided trip, if we do not catch our limit, does this mean I get the $250 :). Not sure what he will think of that idea, but I will try. If he says yes, maybe I will not try so hard to catch the fish, at least then I could walk away $250 richer :). NOT, I would rather catch the fish, you never know this could be the day I catch my monster Bass or Pike. Well, needless to say I did not get $250 from Cezar, we caught our limit within an hour and a half. We started late getting out on the water and we only had a chance to fish for about 2 hours total in the morning, then went out again in the evening. In the morning we caught about a dozen or so Bass and a couple Pike. Cezar used minnows to fish with, while I used all artificial baits. I have always said that a person who knows what they are doing and fishes with lures, will catch just as many fish as someone using live bait, the live bait may catch a few more, but the artificial fisherman will 9 out of 10 times catch bigger fish, at least that has been my personal experience. Even though neither one of us had the pleasure of catching anything too overly big, I think my biggest fish was bigger than Cezar's and he will tell you his was bigger. Well, it was pretty close. Let's put it this way, Cezar called his a monster, I called it gigantic ;)...OK so we stretched it a little when choosing words like gigantic and monster :). They were not bad sized Bass. Me personally I like my Bass a minimum of 4lbs, but for the most part they are hard to produce on any lake, at times. One thing I can say, the fish are amazingly strong. Funny thing, that always seems to happen to me, I come in with a few stories about my day on the water and the guy who left after me and went out fishing, then comes back with limited stories, instead her brought back proof of his catch, with some sweet looking fish. There were a couple 4lb Bass caught and an 8lb Pike. Talking about Pike, if you like Pike fishing you will love Kennebec Lake. The Pike are so abundant that you can not help but catch them all over the place. When I was out on the lake fishing by myself I must have caught half a dozen Pike not even trying. Mostly I caught small little grass Pike and one fairly decent size 3-4 lb'der. Considering I was fishing for Bass, I guess that is not too bad.
While at Springwood cottages, one of the biggest things I noticed and all the other guests commented on was how friendly and helpful Cezar and his staff were during their stay. Springwood Cottages has this cute little store on the property that has just about everything you could think of, or could not think of before you left home. one of the things Cezar said to me while I was there was, "if you need it I either have it or can get it for you". The whole idea is too keep the clients happy he would say. After unpacking and finding out all the stuff I was missing and forgot to pack, well I did not forget, the wife forgot because this time around she was the one that actually did my packing for me :). Needless to say, I brought over this small list of items, I did not have with me and needed or wanted and sure enough, a few minutes later Cezar was at my door with everything, I needed to complete my stay. I would tell you the stupid little things I forgot, but it would just raise the questions like, what was I thinking and how could I forget those things. As a small sample I forgot towels. See what I am talking about, who would forget towels when going to a cottage? The whole point of it is to let you know that if there is something you forgot to bring, even if you do not see it out in plain view of the store, most likely he probably has the item, but did not have a place on the shelf for it. You can see how much pride Cezar takes when taking care of his guests, he does everything he can to make your stay a comfortable one. During conversations we have had, he mentions how he takes note of the requests people make and then if a couple people ask for certain items, that he would not normally carry, he would go out of his way to make sure he has it for the next guests. Cezar and most of his staff are from Poland and I will tell you after my visit at Springwood cottages, if Poland people are as nice has the ones I met during my stay, I will have to plan a vacation to Poland some time in the future. They are the nicest, friendliest people you would ever want to meet.
If I was to sum up my stay at springwood Cottages with one word, that would describe the whole place it would be "Cezar's", I would not think of the fishing first, or the accommodations or whatever, it would be Cezar. Unless you had the pleasure of meeting him, you would not know what I am talking about. The best part of it all, some how he was able to take care of all my needs and the needs of his other guests, all in a few short breaths and yet I hardly seen him during my stay, except on the few occasions when we spoke or went fishing. Hard work and customer care is what makes him Cezar. His creativity for the entertainment at Springwood Cottages is beyond imaginative, especially with the diversity of his services. They should have a nick name for Springwood Cottages, call it "Cezar's Palace". Well enough about Cezar, it might go to his head a bit... I would recommend Springwood Cottages to anyone, from the fisherman to the business man taking his family on vacation. They have so many different cottages, that there is definitely one that will suite your needs. Give Cezar a call and ask him what is going on this weekend, who knows what might be happening at Springwood Cottages. Good Times swimming and Cliff Jumping
Positive Notes:
Negative Notes:
Services and Entertainment: Limited entertainment for kids. This is mostly a fisherman's lodge. Samples of entertainment include but not limited to;
Management and Staff: The management and staff at Springwood Resort cater to your every need and will do whatever it takes to make your stay a comfortable one. It was a pleasure meeting all the Springwood staff members. I could not see Cezar having any employee's, that do not cater to his guests needs. Overview: Fantastic place to go, with or without the family. Located only a few short hours of Toronto or Ottawa, Springwood is a convenient, entertaining place to visit.
